Executive Summary
Objectives
To strengthen the application of research into practice and the quality of applied research
Methodology
Networks of researchers, users of research and funders of research organized by subject (16) and by region (3).
Results And Conclusions

  • Networking is more than a collection of names on a database. Genuine networking relies on more than just proactive information exchange, but implies joint decision making, analysis and collaboration on a variety of mutually relevant projects.

  • Networking requires attention to be paid to the incentives for participation. In order to maximise stakeholder participation, tangible benefits from contributing to the initiative need to be clearly demonstrated. Additionally, a statement as to the anticipated inputs required from members needs to be explicity stated.

  • Electronic networking has proven to popular and provides an immediacy to networking which postal systems lack. Although limitations exist with regard to access to hardware, GARNET's experience is that electronic mail is more widely accessible and used by Southern country members than web browser software.
